The Best Authentic Irish Cuisine

Hello guys, I have to continued my blog before which is about eating culture of Irish. As we know, Ireland is a country that famous for it’s beer and whiskey, but what good is drink if you’ve nothing to eat with it? Ireland also rich with it’s culinary. Ireland has many great traditional dishes that uses traditional ingredients but presented in modern way. Although Ireland known as country that consume most potatoes, but only some of them involve potatoes.

Using local products and traditional cooking techniques by Irish. The good, hearty, and filling dishes provide an authentic taste of Ireland cuisine. So, here. I will explain some of famous foods of Ireland.

“The Full Irish Breakfast”
You’ve probably heard about the full English, but Ireland also has their own breakfast classic called ‘the full Irish breakfast’. Like a motto say ‘eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper’. It is mean that wise to start the day with a large cooked breakfast and it’s applied to the traditional full Irish breakfast. A large cooked breakfast consists of meat, bacon, sausage, eggs, black and white pudding, fried tomatoes, baked beans and soda bread. It is a meal that was traditionally concocted to prepare one for full days and it’s also will fill you up and enable you to have the energy to start the happy day.

“Irish Stew”
As we know from the name Irish stew, it’s a dish made by Irish. It is typically made up of lamb or mutton and root vegetables like potato, carrot, unions, amd parsley. Stewing found its way to Ireland in the 7th century. This is one of traditional Irish food classics that really can’t be beaten.

“Coddle”
It’s name comes from ‘coddling’ or ‘simmering’. It is the favorite food of Dublin and sometimes referred to as Dublin coddle. It is a traditional Irish dish that consists of meaty leftovers, chunks of pork sausage, thinly sliced bacon, potatoes, and unions. It’s usually seasoned with salt, pepper, and a bit of parsley. The dish was traditionally eaten during the winter and on thursday, the night before Chatolics abstained from meat on friday. But, as my blog before. Irish prefer to choose fish rather than meat.

“Boxty”
A boxty is a uniqely Irish type of pancake. The boxty is a mixture of finely greated raw potato and mashed potato, flour, baking soda, and buttermilk which is fried on a griddle. It’s even mentioned in an old Irish rhyme : ‘boxty on the griddle, boxty on the pan; if you can’t make boxty, you’ll never get a man’. Besides that, boxty is a cheap and filling dish commonly eaten by the poor in Ireland, popular with name ‘Irish aran bocht ti’, meaning poor house bread. But now, boxty is very popular for all circle, it can be found on the menu of restaurants which it is traditionally associated.

“Colcannon”
Maybe you have heard of this one, even if you’re not sure what is actually is. Colcannon is creamy mashed potatoes with cabbage. The fact that colcannon has a song written about it tells you all need to know. Long before kale become known as a superfood. Irish people have been mashing it into bowls along with milk, butter and scallions. It has to be creamy, not crumbly.

“Champ”
Champ is one of popular dish with mashed potatoes. It’s made with potatoes, milk, butter, and scallions. It is simple and cheap to make. In some areas the dish is also called ‘poundies’. Champ is similar to another Irish dish, colcannon. But champ is popular in Northern Ireland while colcannon is more popular in Southern Ireland.

“Barm Brack”
Bairin breac or more popular with name Barm brack. This is the dish of Halloween tradition. It’s one of the center of Irish Halloween custom. Barm brack is a type of sweet Irish quick bread which made with raisins and sultanas and usually served with tea. Seeing as it’s a Halloween food, you should have a few tricks to eat it. Because it contained various objects baked into the bread, not only the raisins in there. So, be careful when you bite in.

In the barm brack were a pea, a stick, a peace of cloth, a small coin and a ring. Each item have a meaning to the person concerned. If you find a pea, you won’t be geeting merried this year. If you find a stick, you would have an unhappy marriage ot continually be in disputes. If you find a cloth or rag, you would have bad luck or be poor or lose all your money. If you find a coin, you’re going to become a rich. And if you find a ring, it’s mean that you will be geeting merried within the year. Irish be carefull when they take a slice of Barm brack. Although, this tradition is not widely continued in the present day.

So, there you have it. If you are planning to visiting Ireland, you need to try some of these traditional foods. Which have authentic and special taste.
